It’s never to early…to hire your photographer

We know we have touched on this before, but we want to express again how important it is for you to hire your photographer ASAP, especially when it comes to your wedding. People often think they can wait until a month or 2 before their wedding, but by then, it may be next to impossible to find someone who is available.

Some photographers schedule a year or 2 in advance, but most ask for at least 3-6 months. That’s not saying that they never have availability sooner, but as a rule of thumb, your better off if you don’t procrastinate.

At DLPS, we ask for a minimum of 3 months, but we prefer at least 5-6. This gives us a chance to meet with you a couple of times and make sure we have everything set. It also gives you time to pay for your photography in payments, rather then having to come up with the whole amount at once.

9 Reasons to Hire a Professional Photographer

When it comes to hiring a professional, people think that it will be expensive. It can be even more expensive if you hire somebody on the cheap who is not a pro. With the cheap and unprofessional you never know what you are going to get. At least, with a professional you can let them know what you want and have the ease of mind that you are going to get it.

If you decided to go with someone who is unprofessional for the event and you are unhappy, it turns out that it was an even more expensive endeavor than what you could have had if you had hired a pro. Remember, cheap does not always equal better.

*We stated nine reasons to hire a pro photographer, but the truth is many of these tips ring true of all professionals, regardless of what they specialize in*

  1. We are trained to do our job
  2. We are trained to use our equipment and we are comfortable with it
  3. We are there as employees, not friends, so we will stay focused on the job at hand
  4. We know about lighting
  5. We know about posing
  6. We have the ability to get portraits in difficult situations
  7. We can help keep you on schedule (very important during weddings)
  8. We have the resources to make you beautiful prints and albums
  9. We want your wedding / event to be amazing not just for you, but also for us because it is a reflection on who we are as professionals

Why technology could be risking your memories

Cell phones, digital cameras, USB drives, The Cloud & DVD’s…..just some of the ways that people store photos these days. Fairly inexpensive for the most part, and you can store a ton of photos and take up very little room. Seems like an excellent plan. So whats the problem?

The problem is that in 5, 10 or 20 yrs, the technology of today may very well be obsolete. Many of us had VCR’s, maybe even 8 tracks. Or remember when your “cell phone” was really a phone in a bag that you plugged into the cigarette lighter in your car. You dont? Exactly my point.

So if you are keeping all of your memories, your families memories and those of your friends on some form of storage, what happens to all of those when the technology they are on is no longer usable? What will your kids look at when you are old or have even passed on? They surely aren’t going to be able to pull up your i-phone from 2017 and be able to look at those pictures. It will all be gone.

As photographers, we think that it is super important for you to get prints. You don’t have to get everything printed, but at the very least, spend some money and get a couple good, quality prints of the important people & events in your life. Because years from now, evidence of those things may be gone and you will never be able to get them back.

Metal….prints?

We are always looking at new products to offer you. Is it high quality? Is it unique? Is it modern? These are just a few questions we ask ourselves before deciding whether or not to offer certain products.

We want you to feel that your portrait is a piece of art to share with everyone when you display it on your walls at home or in your office. So without further adieu, we want to show you one of the new products that we decided to offer this year: the metal print! We feel that a metal print is a unique, modern, high quality art piece that you will be proud to display in your home or office. The colors on these prints is phenomenal and they are meant to last!

We offer 2 types of metal prints… flat and curved. A flat metal print is a gorgeous, colorful print that you can mount on your wall.  The curved probably won’t hang well, but it is gorgeous when displayed on a shelf, mantel or desk. With a curved or flat metal print, you will stand out among your friends and family by having something that they probably don’t have.  We are super excited about these and can’t wait to show you the curved metal print in person!

Stephenie + Dennis Riverwalk Monroe, La

We have known Stephenie and Dennis for awhile now. Tony first met them in Tae Kwon Do through Stephenie’s daughter Talia. We had the joy of photographing their family on Christmas Eve, Talia’s senior portraits and now their engagement session. We were so excited and honored when we got the call to do their session.

We were all trying to keep an eye on the weather in hopes that it would not rain us out, but no matter what, we all pushed forward and we are thankful we did. The fog that rolled along the river at the Riverwalk in downtown Monroe was great and added an awesome mood to their portraits!

With Dennis around there is not a dull moment. We handed them an umbrella since it started to sprinkle and Dennis just had fun with it. You would think he was going to break out in song and dance. It started pouring rain just as we did our last portrait, so apparently Mother Nature is looking out for these two!

They compliment each other so well you can see how in love these two are. We can’t wait to see what is in store for their future. Where ever it leads we know it is going to be great!
