Well, the holiday season is upon us and the end of the year is rapidly approaching. This has been an exciting year for us here at Dark Light Photo Studios. A lot has happened and we plan on even more to come in 2015. As some of you know, we are a new business in Monroe, LA. Made up of Tony Romo & me, Jessica Wakefield, Dark Light was a long time coming. Over the last year or so, we had planned it out, written info down, discussed it for hours, picked a business name, made notes, talked about costs and agonized over the logo. In April 2014, we made it official. Dark Light Photo Studios was born. Over the next couple of months, we set up a website, opened accounts on a ton of social media, joined a wedding website, set up pay-pal & even got a Square card reader. We spent tons of money at Vista Print, browsed Michaels & Hobby Lobby for hours, (which turned the living room into a craft room for awhile), attended our first ever Bridal Show in West Monroe where we talked to hundreds of brides & grooms and started making contacts in the community. Then we joined another wedding website, as the first one didn’t seem to be accomplishing much, did some specials/promotions to get our name into the community, joined a networking group and even put a few flyers on some cars. (in the dark so no one would see us. lol). AND, again, spent a ton more money with Vista Print. So then we sit back and wait for the money to come pouring in right? Wrong!!!Have we learned anything from this year? Absolutely. Turns out, it takes at least 6 months of advertising, networking, marketing and waiting around for things to really get going. It also turns out that those things are never ending. You can NEVER stop marketing, advertising, networking and pushing your name out there. Especially as a new business in Monroe, LA where everyone knows everyone and its all about who you know, being the newbies makes life a bit difficult. Impossible? Heck no. But difficult. Business hasn’t picked up as quickly as we had hoped, but we did meet some amazing people, photographed some fantastic couples wedding days and some wonderful engagement sessions.
So what will change/happen in 2015? Lots I hope. We are attending another bridal show in February, again in West Monroe. We hope to meet tons more brides and grooms and since we now have a bit of a clue what we are doing, hope to amp up our booth and make things even better then they were last year. We will of course continue to market, advertise and network. We will stay on social media and promote, promote, promote ourselves. We will come up with new promotions, specials and ideas. We will continue to increase our presence in the community, hopefully do some volunteer work and continue to build our business. We hope that ya’ll will join us in this endeavor and we can’t wait to see what new and exciting things 2015 brings to us all.
We would like to say thank you to all of our 2014 clients and we wish you all the happiness in the world!
Happy Holidays from Jess & Tony at Dark Light Photo Studios!!!!
